Finding News at Centennial Libraries

Access hundreds of local, national, and international newspapers through Centennial Libraries.

Troubleshooting

When searching for a specific news article, several factors may change the way the article appears across the library’s different databases. Often the title of an article may be slightly different on the public-facing or "online only" site, such as thestar.com, versus in a library database. Titles may have changed when moved from print to digital, from newspaper to newspaper, or due to errors in the metadata.

Screenshot of an article that has two different titles. Title found on thestar.com reads: "How your body language may have changed during lockdown", same article in the library's database is called "Feeling awkward? As lockdown eases, you may need a refresher on reading body language"

Tips & Tricks

Date, Author, Newspaper name

Even if the name of the article is different, the author, publication date, and name of the newspaper will still be the same. As long as you have this information, you should be able to track down the article. The library's main Newspaper Search page does not have an Advanced Search option where you can enter these details, so you'll need to use a news-specific database to track down your article.

Publication search

Navigate to the Publication Search page of the database (instructions on Searching for a specific newspaper page) and find your newspaper or magazine. From the publication's page, you can select which date you're looking for and browse the issue or you can try entering the author's name in the Search within box.
