What is Academic Integrity?

According to The Learning Portal, academic integrity is "upholding the values of your school with respect to the production of your academic work and the completion of quizzes, tests, and exams."

Centennial's Academic Honesty and Plagiarism Policy provides information on what are considered to be breaches of academic integrity, including:

  • Cheating
  • Plagiarism
  • and other behaviours.

The penalties for academic integrity breaches at Centennial include:

  • Written reprimands and warnings
  • a lower grade or failing grade
  • notation on your transcript
  • and other penalties.

This guide will provide you with information and resources to help you avoid breaches of academic honesty, in the form of quizzes, videos, and other content.

6 Fundamental Values of Academic Integrity

The International Center for Academic Integrity has identified 6 fundamental values for academic integrity: honesty, trust, fairness, respect, responsibility, and courage. 

The ICAI's Fundamental Values of Academic Integrity, Third Edition, identifies ways to demonstrate each of the 6 values:
