Racism systematically constructs inequities by conferring advantages upon one racial/ethnic group at the expense of others. Power and privilege are distributed unevenly across space and time--as are the characteristics of the human environment--enabling racist structures and institutions to influence the environments in which people live, play, and work. Environmental racism is a critically important component of this broader system of oppression.

Racism has no place in research. The proposed establishment of an Institute of Racism and Health to develop Canada's research capacity to assess and eliminate race-based inequalities in health may be useful as a long-term approach to coordinating and harnessing the wisdom that exists and best practices being developed.

Some fifty years after the end of World War II, many Germans, including leading politicians, public intellectuals, architects, journalists, writers and historians discussed the most effective way to memorialize the Holocaust, mourn Jewish victims of the Nazi state and signify to themselves and the rest of the world that the Nazi attempt to kill all European Jews was central to any complete account of modern German history.

Of the six characters in the two plays, only one is Jewish. "The Jewish Wife" takes place in 1933 and "The Informer" in 1934. Both explicitly portray the rising difficulties and paranoia of pre-war Germany. The decisions and actions of the characters realistically depict the atmosphere of the era. Most poignant is the realization that these characters have no understanding of the horror that is to come.
