What is a Green Screen?

A green screen is a large green backdrop that is used to change the background of a photo or a video. You shoot or record the subject against the green screen background, and then remove or chroma key out the background and replace it with another using editing software.

Getting Started

  • Use editing software for keying out the green screen and imposing the desired background. Try some of the editing software linked here. Some software are free, whilst others require payment. For beginners: iMovie (Free, and available on Mac OS and iOS), VSDC (Open Source, and available on Windows 10) and Kapwing (Free, and available online). For more versatile and powerful editing tools: OBS Studio (Open Source), Adobe Premiere Pro (Paid) and Final Cut Pro (Paid, and available on Mac OS).
