Black History in Canada

Canadian Journal of African Studies / Revue canadienne des études africaines (CJAS / RCEA) is the official publication of the Canadian Association of African Studies (CAAS); launched in 1967, it is a bilingual multidisciplinary journal committed to facilitating the dissemination of social science research by Africanists world-wide.

African and Black Diaspora is a multi-disciplinary peer-reviewed international journal that seeks to broaden and deepen our understanding of the lived experiences of people of African descent across the globe by publishing theoretically and historically informed as well as empirically grounded works in the social sciences and humanities that are intellectually challenging and illuminating.

For the last half-century, the Journal of Black Studies has been the leading source for dynamic, innovative, and creative research on the Black experience. Poised to remain at the forefront of the recent explosive growth in quality scholarship in the field of Black studies, the Journal of Black Studies is published eight times per year. This means a greater number of important and intellectually provocative articles exploring key issues facing African Americans and Blacks can now be given voice.

Launched in the USA in 1969 The Black Scholar (TBS) is the first modern Black studies and research journal. It was founded on the premise that Black writers, scholars, activists and artists could participate in dialogue within its pages. TBS' primary mission has been to chronicle, analyze and debate the conditions of and the emancipatory efforts by Black people, against a multitude of oppressions that include and cross class, nationality, gender, generation, sexuality, and ideology. TBS's rich mix of the scholarly and the artistic, the professional and the public/non-specialist, remains rare, as is our openness to different forms and techniques of political engagement.

Callaloo, the premier journal of literature, art, and culture of the African Diaspora, publishes original work by and about writers and visual artists of African descent worldwide. Frequent annotated bibliographies, special issues dedicated to major writers and literary, social, and cultural themes, and full-color, original artwork and photography are some of the features of this highly acclaimed international showcase of arts and letters.

Souls is a quarterly interdisciplinary journal founded in 1999 and housed in the Department of African American Studies of the University of Illinois at Chicago. Its strategic objective is to use Du Boisian social and political theory as a starting point for examining the radical potential of the field of African-American Studies. The journal explores the intellectual debates that are central to the work of scholars and activists, challenging our understanding of history, politics, social theory, and culture in ways that create new possibilities for a democratic praxis and pursuit of social justice. Produced in the spirit of the intellectual activism of W. E. B. Du Bois, Souls presents creative and challenging interpretations of the key issues now being confronted by scholars of modern Black diaspora.
