TIPP is a response to recommendations made by the local urban Indigenous community in Toronto. Feedback over the years has indicated that folks would like a way to access information to services, events, programs, businesses in a centralized way. TIPP also includes links to research, news, and job and volunteer oppotunities.

TASSC is the successor organization to an informal group of Aboriginal executives called the Toronto Aboriginal Social Services Association (TASSA). TASSA collectively raised the issues of Aboriginal peoples in the City of Toronto and sharde information across organizations. In 2009, TASSA commissioned the Toronto Aboriginal Research Project (TARP) Report, the largest and most comprehensive study ever conducted of Aboriginal peoples in Toronto.
